FTTx: The Evolution of a Network

While HFC networks still have bandwidth capacity potential that can be enhanced by key network changes, the consensus in the industry is that the long term solution for meeting demand for capacity and speed is a fiber/optical one. If operators plan to stay competitive and support future growth, they must devise a plan that looks forward to a converged optical platform capable of delivering Ethernet/IP based services. The good news is that given the nature of the coaxial infrastructure, operators can plan for a long-term migration.

BTR's Monta Hernon takes a look at several FTTx technologies that are providing a bridge to the future and helping make sure the change is evolutionary and not revolutionary.
