Cable Telephony: The Future is Calling

The cable industry made a remarkable move years ago when it took on the telcos and began to offer voice services. Today, it is a powerhouse with a telephony infrastructure that arguably is superior to the telcos'. It is a platform capable of seamlessly delivering voice, video and data. It is time, however, for the industry to renew and upgrade its telephony network.

It's not a simple discussion, because telephony has come to mean much more than voice. Such a modernization clearly doesn"t happen in a vacuum. But it is vital conversation to have. The key issues are highlighted in Broadband Technology Report’s August Special Report, "Telephony, the Next Generation."

Here are some of the topics that will be covered:

  • How can operators benefit from cloud telephony platforms?
  • What is WebRTC and what impact will it have on MSO’s telephony services?
  • What impact will the IP Multimedia Subsystem and network functions virtualization (IMS and NFV) have on creation and rollout of telephony services?
  • Where does WiFi fit into the next-generation telephony landscape?
