  1. RCN Goes Gigabit in DC with DOCSIS 3.1

    RCN has launched DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet service in the Washington DC metro area, including Washington DC; Montgomery County, MD; Falls Church; and the Braemar community in Bristow, VA. The residential service starts at $69.99/month for 12 months and requires no contract. "The fastest Internet speeds in the market are now available to the DC area where reliable, uninterrupted and high performance speed is in high demand," said Sanford Ames, Jr., senior vice president and general manager of RCN DC Metro. "We recognize our customer's need for speed is getting stronger with multiple devices, over-the-top (OTT) video content, smart homes and more. By integrating the newest technologies, RCN remains unrivalled in DC innovation." RCN has also deployed DOCSIS 3.1 in the Chicago and New York City metro areas, going live in those markets on Nov. 3 and Oct. 26, respectively. Other cable operators that have deployed DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit Internet services include Atlantic Broadband, Comcast and WOW!
