  1. Altice Intros Low-Income Internet in NYC Area

Altice USA (Euronext: ATC ) announced the availability of Economy Internet, a new low-income home broadband service from Optimum for eligible families and seniors in the New York City metro area. The $14.99 per month service features broadband speeds of up to 30 Mbps downstream, WiFi in the home via a free smart router, and wireless connectivity on-the-go through access to the Optimum WiFi network of more than 1.5 million hotspots across the tri-state area. The new offer launched today in several pilot areas in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The service is available to families who qualify for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and seniors who qualify for Supplemental Social Security (SSS). Pilot areas include Norwalk, CT; Brentwood, NY; Newark and Paterson, NJ; and the NYC boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Yonkers. The service is scheduled to launch in additional communities over the following months and is expected to be available across the entire Optimum footprint for the start of the 2017 - 2018 school year. "Altice USA is committed to serving our local communities with the products and services that connect people to the things that matter most," said Altice USA Co-President and Chief Operating Officer Hakim Boubazine. "Whether using the internet for schoolwork, researching career opportunities and current events, or staying in touch with relatives, we are glad to enable those connections for more families and seniors with this new low-cost Optimum broadband solution." Charter Communications (NASDAQ:CHTR) also recently announced a low-income broadband program. Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) and Cox Communications have both been running their own programs for several years and recently joined the federal ConnectHome broadband adoption program.
