  1. Edgeware Adds Virtual CDN Server

At IBC in Amsterdam, Edgeware has introduced a software-based server solution to allow its customers to build their video delivery infrastructure using standard IT hardware and cloud computing tools. A complement to Edgeware's existing purpose-built TV Servers, the Virtualized TV Server is intended to be used to create the delivery layer of a dedicated TV content delivery network (CDN) architecture. Both of Edgeware's server solutions are designed to deliver streaming, caching, time-shifting and repackaging of content owners' TV services. They can be used together in a mix-and-match configuration which can be controlled and managed by the same software layer. "Implementing a software-based version of our TV Server gives users a new level of flexibility as they build their own TV delivery capabilities," said Joachim Roos, Edgeware CEO. "It means they can build a hugely scalable distributed TV CDN architecture, either purely within a data center or using cloud-based deployments to deliver peaks in demand. Users can choose how much how much capacity to deliver on standard hardware and how much on Edgeware's plug-and-play servers." Edgeware's TV CDN architecture was announced at the 2016 NAB Show in Las Vegas and was developed to overcome the challenges of delivering TV content over traditional CDNs that are not optimized for video. It's intended for network operators, cable companies, broadcasters and OTT providers. In other Edgeware news, TVB.COM, a producer of Chinese-language programming in Hong Kong, used Edgeware's TV CDN technology to deliver its TV-over-IP services in both HD and 4K/UltraHD throughout this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
